the best dark roast coffee

hi guys! and welcome to my channel. this month's content is super- why can we see the light switch? goddamit, have i not formatted this thing enough? no. oh... no. just- nevermind. this month's content is going to be a little bit different than the rest of the months because it's going to be all about my lovely city, melbouuuuuurne.

the best dark roast coffee, i'm planning to do this series as an annual thing. so, like, to have melbourne june every single year. today for the first episode, i thought we could start with something that is what melbournians are known about: *in creepy child's voice* coooofffffeeeee, coooofffffeeeee.

i've compiled a list of 7 of melbourne's best coffee i'm putting airquotes because coffee is very subjective. these are the locations that kept popping up from a bunch of magazines, websites, and things like that. my coffee go-to is capuccino with no sugar, so that's what i've ordered for all of these places. i will leave all the address and prices and things like that down below. i just wanna focus on the taste for now. number 7 is called brother thomas. and i put it on the 7th one because i think about half of my cup was filled with froth. and i love froth- but it was too much.

i had to literally dig into the glass just to remove a bit of the froth so i can get to the magic that is ze coffee. it's not as weak as some of the other coffees, but it's not as strong. it is also quite sweet in comparison to the others. number 6 is duke's coffee roasters. this one was quite average as well. obviously, it doesn't taste like commercial coffee. but it's not... that far from it. i know- it sounds- it sounds so mean.oh my god. i'm sorry. i'm sorry. i can taste a bit of dark chocolate when i was drinking the coffee. it also had a slightly tangy bitter aftertaste which i thought was really nice.

except it didn't stay for as long as i want it to. number 5 is market lane. my room mate who sleeps beyond this wall, loves market lane. she goes there almost every day, so that just goes to prove how different people have different taste. the way i see it is, with coffee, there's the sour, fruity, acidic type. and at the end of the spectrum there's the milky, nutty, chocolate-y kind of coffee. and my taste goes to this spectrum. for market lane, most of their coffees are on this range. market lane has a really really strong taste.

if you're not used to drinking coffee, and you taste that, you might not be able to swallow it. i had to get a bit of sugar to neutralise the taste. it did say that in the coffee it had plum or raisin extracts but i didn't really taste them. i could taste that there was some sort of fruit in there. above market lane, i put in brother baba budan. in terms of consistency, it is much more watery than the rest. this one was a bit of a trick for me because the first taste that i got was bitter and i was like yay bingo.

but then the aftertaste becomes sour. so it's like bitterrrr and then after you swallow it-- it turns sour. i have no idea how that happens. but kudos to the barista for fooling me, and making me want to drink more and more. the second one is sensory lab. they pride themselves in creating a very unique taste that differs from other coffee joints and i feel like... i'm on board. i totally agree. and i think that's a very hard thing to achieve considering melbourne has like three coffee joints in one block. as in, like, one side of the block.

there's just so many out there. the first taste was super overwhelming. it was a really sharp bitterness. i started coughing, but... i couldn't not drink it. eventually after sipping more and more, my tolerance for it just kind of... grew? and i was addicted. i don't know how else to describe it other than... masculine? which is a weird way to describe a taste. it does have a bit of sourness in it, but not enough to overshadow the overall bitterness. which i loved.

and the smell was like roasted nuts. fresh nuts that you pick up off the ground and you roast on the spot. it's like they infuse it in the coffee or whatever. i was sniffing it like a crazy idiot. and drinking like a crazy idiot as well. that's not a welcome image. but that's what i was doing down the street. my number one coffee go-to is padre coffee. the joint that i visited is called league of honest coffee. it smells like a rainforest or... leaves on the ground when you crunch it with your feet.

it's like a post-rain kind of setting. it just smells so grounded, very natural. the bitterness is not overwhelming. you can taste it, but then it goes away and you want to taste it again, so you drink it again. *repeat* it just happens over and over again. i finished it, i think, within less than ten seconds. which is kind of embarassing, but that's how much i loved it. the consistency is quite thick. it also has a bit of a nutty flavour.

like a bit of almond or whatever flavour. i can't really pinpoint it, but it's just nuts. i know there's nuts in there. it tastes like chocolate, it's bitter, there's a bit of nuttiness. and it smells like a freakin' forest. praise. preach. i was talking to my mom about this, and i was saying to her: this coffee joint is freakin' robbin' me blind. because i have to go get this every single day. she's like: dude, get your own coffee machine. and i was like: mom, i'm not f'in as rich as you are.

and she's like: dude, just buy the stinkin' machine. and i'll pay for it. so she chose a machine for me, and now i have a coffee machine in my house which is kind of like the best thing ever. *nasaly weird tone* glorious coffee machine. mama, if you're watching this thank you so much. of course the first thing i got was this: padre coffee! the one that i described to you was the costa rica one. they also sell a variety of different coffees that they change every month or so.

i've tried the indonesian mandheling, daddy's little girl, seasonal blend and they are all so lovely. i know, look at me, i'm a geek! and i'm addicted! i'm sorry. it's so good! if you ever visit melbourne, don't forget to try all these coffee joints. actually... all of melbourne's coffee are good. if you live in melbourne, don't forget to tell me what is your favourite joint to go to. just keep in mind all these locations were in the cbd. if you live in a different neighbourhood like brunswick, or richmond

or anywhere and you have a: "nat, you have to try this place. it is the best thing ever." tell me and i will, i promise you, i will freakin' go there. if you enjoyed this one don't forget to click thumbs up. don't forget to press subscribe. and i'll leave a link to two of my previous videos if you wanna check that out, that would be amazeballs.
